Keynote: Childhood and change – engaged scholarship in times of uncertainty

This keynote discusses how global socio-ecological change and uncertainty may have implications for childhood studies in a Scandinavian context. On the backdrop of ecological crisis, global pandemics, increasing inequality, and war, dilemmas related to children’s socialization, protection, and agency emerge as empirical as well as analytical concerns. With reference to ethnographic research on early childhood educators’ and children’s perspectives on sustainability and climate crisis, and on family life during the Covid 19 pandemic in a Danish context, I discuss change in relation to childhood as an empirical experience, an analytical interest and as an ambition for research.
