    Beskrivelse

People globally have dealt with climate-related hazards at all times, and they have in the majority of places adapted gradually. However, with the impacts of a changing climate, these small steps might not be enough to withstand the expected intensity of climate-related hazards in the future. In this paper, the focus is on the effect of storms in the Faroe Islands. The islands are highly exposed to storms, and under a future climate, storms are projected to increase in intensity and maybe also in frequency in this region. The islands are characterized by being small and remote, and with a rough terrain, which makes assistance troublesome. Consequently, the civilian population – especially in the outer regions, often have to deal with storms themselves. The geographical focus in this paper is the Northern Islands, and mainly the communities Viderejde and Hvannasund/Norddepil, which are two communities where place attachment is very strong with families living here for centuries. The theoretical question is then how place attachment affects the way they handle storms. This is the central question this paper tries to answer, by using a qualitative approach with storylines and narratives. It is a work in progress, so it is based on initial findings.
