Youth Marginalization in Urban Areas

    Projekter: ProjektForskning

More than half of the world’s population now live in urban areas and there are
increased differences between growing up in rural or urban areas both in terms of opportunities and social vulnerabilities. The cultural geography and social
circumstances of big cities generate unequal and unpredictable conditions for youth different from those in rural areas. There is a growing awareness of how the composition and complexity of urban areas produce many challenges in relation to marginalized and socially vulnerable youth. It is therefore important that social educators (Pedagogues), youth workers and social workers working with at-risk youth take in to account the unequal and unpredictable limitations and possibilities of spaces and relations of urban areas and how they frame work with marginalized/socially vulnerable youth.
