Abstract

Listen to this audiostory “On the right kind of meetings—Billy’s struggle for self-determination in what sometimes seems like a very paternalistic system”. The story mainly focuses on Billy’s years living with homelessness, and his encounters with the welfare state, both the ones that alienated him from seeking help, and the ones that gave him back his trust in relying on other people – and the state – for help. The story allows us to reflect on and discuss the complex dynamics of bureaucracy and people in vulnerable positions, as well as values and dignity in social work.
