Presentation

Bjørn is the academic lead for the R&D initiative in science education.

Bjørn’s research interests include understanding how science and science education use gender, race, ethnicity, and other identity markers to privilege, marginalize, and exclude. At the same time, Bjørn is also interested in how the sciences, together with other school subjects, can contribute to fulfilling the school’s democratic societal mission. In addition to inclusion, this mission can also involve applying the subjects as education for sustainability.

Currently, Bjørn is co-project leader on a research project examining the practices and conditions of the subject science/technology across Denmark. This project is being carried out in collaboration with UCSyd, Aarhus University, and Epinion.

Bjørn has also conducted research on science in higher education: progression and coherence; student retention and attrition.

Bjørn studied physics and specialized in physics education research at Uppsala University (m.phil) and the University of Copenhagen (Ph.D. + postdoc, Department of Science Education) and worked as associate professor at the University of Gothenburg's teacher education.

Bjørn has been employed at KP since March 1, 2019.
