Jacob Taarup-Esbensen a lecturer in International Business, Risk and Organisational communication. He has ten years of leadership experience managing large aviation networks and ground operations, including developing and applying Environmental, Social and Governance systems. As an internal and external consulting resource on International business management, quality and governance systems, he has been active in the Nordics, Germany, UK, Belgium and Caucasus. He has been involved in management and leadership development both as an instructor and as part of management teams and worked as an independent consultant specialised in Governance, Risk and Compliance systems as well as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implementation for companies and governmental institutions. Here he has been covering issues of internal control, strategy and assurance. For the past year, he has been focusing on the Arctic and has among other project been working on the sustainable development within the emerging extractive industry. He is currently a member of the UArctic steering committee on Arctic Sustainable Resources and Social Responsibility.
His research focuses on risk in large infrastructure projects, as for example seen within the mining. Taking his outset in the Armenian mining sector, he has investigated the relationship between multinationals and the local communities, researching the practices that these companies engage in when managing this relationship. Besides presenting papers at international business conferences, public lectures and appearances in the media, he has published in international recognised journals.
