'Sand is rather normal in Denmark': Playing with sand and belonging

Research output: Contribution to conference without a publisher/journalPaperResearch

Abstract

In this paper, I explore the materiality of sand in Danish kindergartens through a focus on sensuous experience. I am interested in the ways in which sand as a material is sensed and made to make sense in interactions between sand, sandpits, children, kindergarten pedagogues and parents in a context where children’s outdoor activities are linked to politicized questions of belonging and citizenship.
